25 Jan 5 Simple Ways to Use Twitter for your Brand
1. Update your header photo
One of Twitter’s most recent updates is an overhaul to your profile layout, with your (enlarged) display photo and profile now positioned in a sidebar to the left. This leaves your header photo unobstructed. It now stretches from end-to-end of your screen at a resolution of 1500×500 pixels, so old header photos at smaller sizes will dip in quality if not changed. Design an eye-catching header photo that showcases the image you want your brand or company to present. If the first thing visible at the top of your profile is a well-constructed header photo at the correct dimensions (no pixels here!), Twitter users will be more inclined to find you worth following.
2. Keep up to date with trends
You don’t have to download third-party applications to see what people are talking about online: Twitter already does that for you. Use this to your advantage by adjusting your trending sidebar’s location settings. You can choose to check out worldwide trends, trends in specific countries, and even trends in a specific city. Keep your target demographic in mind and post content according to what’s trending in their location to increase engagement with that user base. Reminder: you don’t have to use hashtags for your tweets to show up in search. Additionally, if you keep at Twitter enough, you can anticipate major recurring events and post content accordingly.
3. Pin your tweets
Another new feature is the ability to pin a tweet so that it stays visible at the top of your profile even as you post newer updates. You can use this to bump up awareness of whatever message contained in that tweet, whether it’s a tweet about an ongoing promotion or a particularly popular tweet among followers. You can use this in conjunction with link shares to route traffic to another of your channels—for example, your official website.
4. Incorporate hashtags into events
There are benefits to creating a custom hashtag for on-ground events, product launches, and internet promotions. Providing a hashtag to your target audience makes tweets about your event easier to find and examine, enabling you to monitor how people think about and experience with your brand. It also makes finding conversations about your efforts accessible to other users who can search for it as well, and possibly increase impressions. Who knows? Your event might just go viral.
5. Converse with your followers
Twitter is not a one-way status generation machine. Users can tweet @ you for responses, reactions, and queries, so take advantage of this to open online communication channels and reply to your followers directly. Sustaining conversations with followers also helps generate active content for your Twitter page between planned posts, giving a much-needed shot of spontaneity to what otherwise could be a page full of promotion announcements and links.
